The jury praised a building that lets daylight do the architecture.
The Hikari Library in Annecy has received the Civic Light Award in the public buildings category. The award goes to the whole team: the City of Annecy, our engineers, the builders and the librarians who shaped the brief with us.
The jury visited the building on a grey morning in October, when the reading hall was full.
What the jury noted
Daylight used as the main material of the project.
A timber structure left visible and unfinished.
A building that stays open to the lake promenade every day.
A library where daylight does the architecture, and where nothing asks for attention.
Next steps
The library will host an open day for students and practitioners in the spring. Drawings and models from the competition will be shown in the main hall.
